Cyber security companies from across the Midlands are invited to participate in a Midlands Engine mission to Baltimore, Maryland.

Cyber security companies from across the Midlands are invited to participate in a Midlands Engine mission to Baltimore, Maryland between 18-22 October 2016 and interested businesses from Worcestershire are encouraged to secure a place before the 12 August deadline.

Maryland is recognised as a cyber-security leader both nationally and internationally with the world’s largest concentrations of cyber security companies. The headquarters of the US National Security Agency is at Fort Meade and some of the world’s largest IT and cyber security firms are located there as well as many of the most successful modern cyber innovation companies, five universities which are designated centres of excellence in cyber education, research by NSA and DHS and several leading hi-tech and cyber security incubators and accelerators.

The mission includes the prestigious CyberMaryland Conference 2016, with a range of networking and business development opportunities. The mission is designed to help companies from across the Midlands make contacts within US organisations and create long-term partnerships as Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and the Marches LEP, in partnership with UKTI and Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce, are developing a programme over the next three years with a return visit from Maryland to the Midlands being planned for Spring 2017.

Available grant funding for Worcestershire companies:

Worcestershire LEP has funded grant support of £2,000 for 10 eligible Worcestershire cyber security companies to contribute to the exhibition package to facilitate local companies participation in the mission. The grant is available to eligible to companies on a first come, first served basis and full terms and conditions are available following an Expression of Interest.

The grant funding contributes to the cost of the exhibition package and so please be aware that all flights/travel, hotels/accommodation and subsistence outside of the exhibition package will still need to be met by each individual delegate.

Gary Woodman, Chief Executive of Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “The mission to Baltimore, Maryland is a unique and powerful opportunity for Worcestershire businesses in the cyber sector. We recognise the importance of the cyber sector for our local economy and so we have funded grants for 10 local businesses who are looking to boost their international presence and provide the opportunity for these companies to build a long-term relationship with companies in the US.”

“Expressions of Interest are needed by 12 August, however, as places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis I would urge you to apply as soon as possible so you don’t miss this great opportunity. We look forward to working with you to showcase the expertise in this sector from Worcestershire as well as from the across the Midlands.”
